Our New Puppy

Yes, you read it correctly! We have a puppy now. Greg adopted Meg on September 11. She's an Australian Shepherd/some sort of terrier mix. She was 2 1/2 months old when he brought her home, and the kids and I instantly fell in love with her.

She's a very smart dog, and after a month of being a part of our family, she's already crate trained and is well on her way to being house trained. I'm hoping she starts doing a little better with her potty cues because I don't pick up on them as often and I'd like.

When she first came home, she was about 3/4 the size of Scooter, our smallest cat. Now she's taller than all of them. Scooter tolerates her the best, Spaz and Tony avoid her at all costs, and Durango still tries to boss her around. I'm not sure how that situation is going to play out, but 'Rango isn't backing down!

After three weeks with us, she gained 3 lbs. Meg goes back for another puppy check up on 10/23, and I'm anxious to see how much bigger she's gotten. She, like the kids, is growing up so fast!!

Meg loves playing with the kids, but unfortunately she gets so excited she jumps on them and bites at them quite a lot. We're working with the kids to teach them how to teach her, but that isn't going so well. After the first week, if we had taken the kids anywhere, there probably would've been wondering if we were abusing the kids. They were pretty scratched up!! She's starting to lose her puppy teeth, so hopefully the biting will start to cease.

We haven't taken her to any obedience training yet, but she's been doing a pretty good job learning to leash walk, and we've been able to teach her how to sit, sit up, and lay down. Stay is going to take some time!
